Job Purpose
This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious, enthusiastic and commercially focused Business Manager, who has all-round knowledge of finance and personnel.
The role will involve supporting the head teachers and governors at several academy’s in West Cumbria ensuring all policies, procedures and controls are followed and deadlines met.
Working as part of the leadership team you will promote the highest standards of business ethos within the finance, facilities and personnel functions. You will also strategically ensure the most effective use of resources to support the academies learning objectives.
This will be an exciting, varied, hands-on, busy and challenging role requiring excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Main Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Ensure each academy operates their financial systems and controls in accordance with procedures and timetables, ensuring accurate financial information is maintained and reported on a regular basis to the head teacher, governors and head office.
Co-ordinate the budget preparation for each academy for the head teacher, governors and head office approval.
Using the agreed budget, actively monitor and control performance to achieve value for money at each of the academies.
Manage the payroll service for all staff at each academy.
Co-ordinate, review and submit to head teachers, governors and head office the monthly management accounts pack for each academy to required timescales.
Ensure financial transactions at each academy are carried out in an appropriate manner and that the financial regulations of both the multi-academy trust and the academies are observed.
Assist in the preparation of financial returns for the DfE, all other central and local government agencies and the multi academy trust within statutory deadlines.
Work closely with the HR Advisors to provide professional assistance and advice to employees which reflects the academies policies and best practice.
Manage the writing of employee standard letters, templates and reports, ensuring these are logged and stored as required.
Assist in the promotion and delivery of the performance review cycle / CPD and support employee development in line with business objectives and budgets.
Plan and manage change in accordance with the school improvement plan.
Key Skill / Experience Requirements
A strong academic background with previous financial and managerial experience.
A strategic thinker, ensuring that the academies maximise income to promote their aims, priorities and objectives.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent organisation and time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
The ability to demonstrates confidentiality, integrity and discretion
Full clean driving licence and be willing to travel.
