Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: £26,400 – £32,400 per year

Platform Resourcing are currently working in partnership with a Global manufacturing/engineering business based in Newport, South East Wales. They are currently looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to plan and implement activities in order to meet the company’s targets. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with customer specifications as well as initiating and develop feasible, cost effective and reliable mechanical designs from concept through to production.

The suitable candidate will be qualified to Degree standard or will hold a HND/HNC or equivalent. Those applying must also have a good sound knowledge and working knowledge of 3D AutoCAD.

This role would certainly suit those who have experience of working in a manufacturing/engineering discipline, preferably within a ‘bespoke’ mechanical engineering environment would be advantageous.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Mechanical product design using 3D CAD modelling

* Product realisation

* BOM and mechanical drawing generation compliant with specification

* Support current engineering projects

* Design FMEA

* Part standardisation

* Support VA/VE activities

* Engineering change control

* Understanding of casting process from initial pattern design through to finishing

* A knowledge of fasteners, torque and their application and measurements

* Ability to confirm parts against drawing by measurement and to understand and interpret engineering drawings

* Obtain knowledge of engineering materials and their properties

* Implement continuous improvement of methodology and to develop creative working practices

* Resolve technical problems, generate and implement countermeasures

* Successful completion of all new projects on time

* 100% ‘right first time’ product realisation

* Engineering change control – compliance to customer requirements

* Propagation of mechanical design techniques throughout The company’s UK

* Standardisation and rationalisation of mechanical designs
