Milestone’s Streetlighting division is currently looking to recruit a level 6 Degree Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to work in our commercial team on our Thurrock & Redbridge Street lighting Contracts from our depot based in Waltham Cross, Enfield (junction 25, M25). The Commercial Team are responsible for the Commercial Management of all our Streetlighting Contracts.
This is a great opportunity if you are interested in the commercial side of the Construction industry to develop knowledge, skills and experience whilst studying a relevant degree and receiving guidance from a qualified surveyor.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will enrol onto the Level 6 Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveyor Pathway) Degree Apprenticeship, with one of our partners University. Over 5 years, you will work towards a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying, as well as chartership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

As a Milestone Degree Apprentice you will be recruited on a permanent contract and after completing your apprenticeship and professional accreditation with the RICS, becoming a Chartered Surveyor, you will have the knowledge, experience and professional membership to progress and be rewarded with a great career at Milestone.

As the apprentice QS your duties & responsibilities will be:

• Assisting the Contracts Senior Quantity Surveyor with below tasks.
• Management of Subcontract packages – preparing and issuing instructions, timely payments to Subcontractors
• Cost & Value reporting (CVR) – preparation of monthly reporting
• Forecasting – preparation of quarterly forecasts
• Submission of Application of payment to the Client
• Procurement of Subcontract packages – preparing and issuing invitation to tenders (ITT’s)
• Become competent in commercial site procedures, systems, cost control, variations and method of measurement
• Skills & Knowledge Requirements
• good attention to detail
• good use of excel spreadsheets desirable but not essential
• comfortable in working with numerical data in excel spreadsheets and various databases
• good communication skills
• enjoy dealing with people and solving problems
