Generator Engineer

Salary: £36,000 – £43,200 per year

Please note: In this position, you’ll be needed to work some weekends, as well as occasionally working shifts and covering on-call in unsociable hours. Full details of how this will work will be revealed at the interview.

The Role:

In the Generator Engineer role, you’ll report to the Engineering Manager and will be primarily responsible for regular maintenance (PPM), installation, and commissioning of diesel generators across the UK predominantly focusing on the south of England.

Specific tasks include:

– Working in a field-based role maintaining diesel sets up to 3000KVA

– Carrying out installation, commissioning, planned and reactive maintenance operations

– Providing key technical assistance as needed to internal engineering staff and customers alike

– Mentoring and assisting with on-the-job training and supervision of apprentices

– Accurately completing all records for a completed job

This is a field-based role covering the Hampshire region, so if field-based work doesn’t suit you please do not apply.

The standard working hours for this job are Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

The Candidate:

To be the right person for the Generator Engineer role you will need direct experience in carrying out load bank testing, site surveys, inspections, fault finding, repairs, and testing of generator sets and associated equipment.

We also need you to have prior experience in providing breakdown response and resolution, commissioning, and customer training of critical power equipment.

It’s also essential that you’ve got experience of carrying out routine servicing and maintenance (PPM), installation, and commissioning on a wide variety of critical power equipment.

It’s important that you also have the following:

– Relevant qualifications in a mechanical/electrical engineering discipline or have completed a relevant approved NVQ/apprenticeship

– Proven experience in servicing and maintaining generator sets

– ECS/CSCS card

– BS7671 (18th edition) wiring regulations

– Experience within critical power applications

You’ll also need to be the following:

– Able to work a 1/6 on-call rota

– Strong analytical and fault finding skills

– Self-motivated and customer-focused

The Package:

The basic salary for the Generator Engineer role is between £36,000 – £43,200per annum.

Overtime: You’ll also have the opportunity to earn plenty of overtime in this role; being paid out at time and a half and double time.
