Salary: £390 – £450 per day

Quantity Surveyor
Main Purpose
To provide a Quantity Surveying service associated with a wide range of projects and contracts within the construction sector, focusing on the Education and Health sectors – in a manner which accords with accepted professional practices and standards.
Acting under the guidance of a Partner.
Main Activities
Budget Estimating & Cost Planning
Maintain knowledge of cost levels and economic trends to assist in the maintenance of a comprehensive cost library.
Provide full budget estimates and a detailed cost planning service.
Liaise with the design team regarding possible changes to the scope and scale of proposed work and the adjustment of budget estimates and cash flow forecasts in the light of these discussions.
Engage in Value Management discussions.
Pre-Contract Surveying
In accordance with the agreed programmes, Policy and Standing Orders and UK and European Practices and the appropriate standard method of measurement; and utilising both manual and computer processes; prepare for tendering purposes of all necessary documentation required – including detailed descriptions of the scope and extent of projects, specification of workmanship and materials to be employed; and Bills of Quantities.
Liaise with and co-ordinate information obtained from Architects, other Technical Officers, Structural Engineers and other Consultants regarding the production of tender documentation, to assist in ensuring that any discrepancies in information are resolved, and that timescales are observed to enable pre-contract deadlines to be met.
Respond to queries received from tenderers on tender documentation, liaising as appropriate with the Design Team to resolve queries and problems. Instruct tenderers accordingly via the appropriate client procurement system.
Acting in accordance with the RICS Code of Practice for Selective Tendering, assist in the provision of a full tender evaluation and reporting system to ensure that a detailed and comprehensive tender report is produced makes a recommendation for contractor selection.
Attend contractor interviews as required and formulate and issue the appropriate contract documents at the culmination of the tender process.
​​​​​​​Post Contract Surveying
Attend pre-start and subsequent site meetings with Third Party Contractors and Statutory Undertakings. Arrange programmes of work for the financial management of projects.
Prepare detailed site measures and priced accounts for inclusion within Final Accounts for Audit inspection, all in accordance with accepted methods of measurement.
Prepare regular interim valuations for contracts in progress, submit for payment, and maintain records of all valuations. Maintain financial control of contracts and provide detailed cost monthly reports as necessary.
Prepare final accounts for contracts, submit for audit inspection and respond to any queries arising there from.
Maintain project file and provide records of instructions, cash flow forecasts and progress reports.
Provide information for the determination of liquidated and ascertained damages.
Administration
Maintain an awareness of construction methods and technology; standard methods of measurement and forms of building contracts; and Health and Safety requirements.
Be responsible for personal entry of work details on computer diary, logging site meetings in office diary, manual and computerised filing and archiving and completing expense claim documentation. Operating with and managing, web based project and archive systems.
Health and Safety
Demonstrate and enforce where possible good practices in Health and Safety issues.
General
The post holder should develop their own technical and professional knowledge and ability to carry out their duties. This may include attending relevant training courses as agreed with the Partners. Training and development log to be kept up to date by post holder, including on-line with your relevant Professional Institute.
The post holder shall obtain and keep up full membership of the RICS and participate in sufficient continuing professional development to retain this membership.
The post holder will carry out their duties in compliance with both legislation, the Company Policy for Health and Safety and any other particular requirements imposed upon the Company by clients.
The post holder will carry out their duties and responsibilities in compliance with the Company’s Quality Assurance ISO 9001 and Environmental Management System ISO 14001 procedures and guidelines.
These duties may vary from time to time according to the needs of the Partnership. The post holder will carry out any other appropriate and relevant duties as required by the Partners.
