Systems / Network Administrator

JOB OVERVIEW: Varied role of Systems / Network Administrator with element of software testing and occasional end-user support. Experience of automated testing / test automation advantageous but TRAINING PROVIDED where necessary! Experience with Microsoft Virtualization Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) preferred. Salary to C£49,200 depending on experience plus excellent benefits package including generous pension, bonus, health and excellent training and career prospects. THE ROLE;
Due to ongoing expansion and business wins my client is currently seeking a Systems Administrator / Engineer with Web Applications / Software Testing skills ideally automated testing but candidates with some manual testing experience are welcome. You will be responsible for both internal systems and external client systems. This is a fantastic, diverse role where you will have the chance to cross-train into new technology areas where you require development! You will be expected to monitor, implement and maintain key infrastructure to highest standards, working to tight deadlines in a dynamic and mission critical environment. You will be highly analytical and be able to “think outside the box”.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
*Maintain existing sites Web applications and Windows 2008 Servers
* Support internal network infrastructure and Desktops
* All standard systems administrator duties such as active directory management, group policies, server updates, security
* Involvement in migration of all email servers to new vendor
* Ensure software applications developed by offshore team conforms to Quality Assurance and platform security standards via manual / automated testing (Selenium to be introduced)

Skills and attributes;
* Practical knowledge and experience of servers maintenance and backup infrastructure
* MS Server 2008 R2 related qualifications an advantage, MCTS, MCP.
* knowledge of HyperV / MS VDI
* Broad knowledge of software / network / desktop / telco environments
* Software / systems testing (ideally automated but training can be provided)
* Working knowledge of MS SQL Server and MySQL databases
* Any experience of testing PHP / MySQL / SQL Server applications / software is advantageous

Desirable / advantageous skills (non-essential);
* Mobile device applications design / build
* Experience of project auditing and helpdesk
* Experience of the Agile Scrum and Development
* Awareness of the full software development life-cycle: from requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery
