Sessional Support Worker (Reparation) – Youth Offending Team – Basildon
Permanent Part Time Contract (10 hours per week)
Salary Band 3 – £26,000 – £34,560(Pro rata)
Job Purpose
Supervising groups of young offenders (10-17) working on specified community projects as part of a court ordered intervention.
The Role
Essex Youth Offending Service works with young people aged 10-17 who have offended and are subject to both pre and post court disposals.
With the Reparation Worker the Support Worker will be responsible for the delivery of reparation, both direct and indirect in the community. They will also will responsible for providing an environment that enables young people to learn new skills and gain accreditation for some of their work.
Reparation to the community and will be facilitated 7 days a week, evening and every other weekend working will be required. A flexible approach to working hours is essential. Work will be primarily outdoors.
Role Specific Accountabilities
Ensure that all reparation is delivered within the principles of restorative justice and in line with the policies and protocols of Essex Youth Offending Service.
Use skills, knowledge and experience to complete robust Risk Assessments on all Reparation activities.
To ensure the safety of young people at all times and exercise an appropriate and commensurate duty of care that reflects the ages of young people being supervised.
Source new community projects and activities that reflect requirements of YJB good practice and where applicable the national Operational Guidelines for Unpaid Work.
Meet National standards and ensure consistent adherence to both designed outcomes and agreed service levels.
Raise the achievements of young people by encouraging them to engage in accredited courses through reparation activities.
Work collaboratively with partners and the wider community to ensure the best overall outcome for the people of Essex, whilst protecting ECC’s interests.
All records are accurate and updated in a timely manner.
Keeping knowledge up to date by attending team meetings and training as required.
Works with a clear understanding of the organisations child protection and safeguarding responsibilities. Respecting and valuing individual diversity and the variety of their contributions.
Evidence of practical skills
Evidence of the ability to engage young people in meaningful work
Ability to organise and prioritise a busy workload
Competent in the use of IT systems
Ability to model pro-social attitudes and behaviour to offenders.
Good communications skills both written and oral.
A good understanding or Health and Safety principles and experience of undertaking Risk Assessments.
