Support Workers – Full-Time and Part-Time

Salary Details: £26,000per year

Do you have experience working with people who have learning disabilities, ideally those on the autistic spectrum? Are you interested in psychology? Are you confident, patient and understanding?

MacIntyre is a leading national charity supporting children, young people and adults with learning disabilities. We are looking for full-time (38 hpw), part-time and relief support workers to join our team at our services in the Bury area.

About the role

We support adults on the autistic spectrum with health care and communication needs, who can present with challenging behaviour. You will join in with their favourite pastimes and hobbies, helping them be active members of their local community. Assistance with personal care is required.

Shift rota patterns cover days, evenings, nights and sleep-ins, all including weekends and public holidays.

The work in these services can be demanding and doesn’t suit everyone, but if it’s right for you, you’ll find it incredibly rewarding and valuable, especially as there’s progress towards more social inclusion locally for the people we support.

What we need from you

Because of the complexity of the support needs, you will need prior experience working with people who have learning disabilities. You will need to be competent and confident in following support guidelines and risk assessments, both working with other team members and using your own initiative.

You’ll be a clear communicator with good spoken English, as the people we support can have difficulties understanding verbal communication.

You must be able to conduct physical interventions when necessary; we will provide the training you need.

If you are female, you’ll need to be of mature age, as one of the people we support can display obsessive behaviour towards young female staff.

It is essential for these positions that you hold a full manual driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK, as you will be required to drive service vehicle. Because of mobility car requirements, you will need to be over 26, or to have held a full UK driving licence for three years or more.

Salaries are dependent on successful completion of a probation period and relevant qualifications. Part time positions are pro rata, and we Salary: £26,000per sleep-in.
