Quant Developer – Java

The Company is looking to hire a quant developer.

The successful candidate will have proven ability as a Java
developer (at least two years commercial experience), and will have a good
mathematical skillset and an interest in finance.

The first sizeable project that the successful candidate
will be working on is a re-design and re-implementation of our two core pre-trade
systems (model prototyping and live trade generation), written primarily in
Java and Matlab (thus the successful candidate will be required to learn Matlab
if not already familiar with it). Other projects will involve working closely
with the research and dealing teams, and support and development of other live
systems.

As a minimum the successful candidate will have:

• At
least two years full-time commercial experience as a Java developer. Excellent knowledge
of multi-threaded programming in Java.
• Strong
mathematical ability, including mental arithmetic and algebra. Statistics will
be a benefit.
• An
interest in finance.
• Good
knowledge of object oriented design and development principles.
• Good
problem solving ability.
• Good
knowledge of the Java collections API.
• Good
knowledge of SQL.

The following would be beneficial but are not
pre-requisites:

• Experience
of Matlab.
• Experience
of MS SQL Server.
• Experience
of VBA, in particular with Excel.
• Experience
of Spring, Dependency Injection, Maven, JDBC and other Java persistence APIs.
• Experience
of Mercurial.

Candidates will be tested on all of the above during the
interview process, and if successful will be expected to supply suitable
documentation to prove academic qualifications before starting work.

All candidates must also have a strong degree (2(i) or
better), from a reputable university in a numerate subject such as mathematics,
statistics, physics or computer science, as well as the top grade at A-Level or
equivalent in mathematics. Candidates with a B grade or worse in mathematics
will not be considered.
