Salary: £33,600 – £42,000 per year
We are seeking a Production Engineer for a Cambridge based company to undertake and deliver quality product designs and product build solutions for the manufacturing process. You will support the Manager and colleagues in the liaison between key teams (production, planning, design, engineering, procurement and customer support) and resolve problems in the design, manufacture or installation processes of the business. Candidates will possess a minimum of BTEC standard in Mechanical Engineering or offer the equivalent in practical experience and proven training. HNC/HND qualifications in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering are welcome. Relevant supporting work experience should be from within a high quality production engineering environment. Specialised component and equipment manufacturing experience would be of particular interest, and skills in Solid Works and Auto CAD will be required.
Main Responsibilities:
* To undertake production engineering tasks and projects, implementing schedules, monitoring progress and ensuring project delivery within the required deadlines
* To focus specifically on NPI/involvement in DR process/production tooling
* To promote production improvement, cost reduction and VA/VE with suppliers and provide support to the Procurement team in finding potential new vendors for parts
* To research and investigate innovations and improvements to parts, products and processes: being aware of new developments and raising awareness of team colleagues
* To initiate and develop alternative sources for parts manufacture e.g. replacement of machined parts with injection moulded parts
* Promoting efficiency within the company, to assist the Manager in the review of production processes and procedures to ensure that these remain relevant to the changing needs of the business, identifying any risks, managing risks and eliminating wasteful processes
Qualification, Skills and Experience:
* A minimum of BTEC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent training and experience
* Ideally HNC/HND level qualifications and supporting technical experience including comfortable working with technical drawings and processes.
* Substantial experience in specialised component and equipment manufacturing and knowledge of quality management systems and processes.
* Solid works 2010 and Auto CAD skills
* Microsoft Office skills especially use of Excel and Project software.
* Good communication and influencing skills, both verbal and written.
* Effective planning and organising skills.
