Process Engineer (Chemicals)

Process Engineers £30,000 – £45,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Based Berkshire

Part of a global corporation, we are a world leader in the design and engineering of large scale capital equipment that is used in the chemical / process related industries. Due to significant growth, we are currently seeking to recruit a process engineer who will be responsible for FEED and commissioning. Applications are invited from process engineers who are qualified in either chemical or mechanical engineering and who have experience of working in a similar role. Candidates who can demonstrate knowledge and / or experience of heat transfer or related subject matters may be given preference. Above all, you will already possess several years’ experience of working in a chemical process environment and well versed in the FEED and commissioning of large scale machinery. Customer

*Provides information and technical support to Sales Engineers, Project Engineers and site representatives, to assist in their primary contact with customers.
*Acts as primary customer contact during plant start-up, process commissioning, site surveys and performance related enquiries.

Sales

*Reviews and comments upon process calculations and equipment selection/sizing for forecast projects, before order commitment.
*Reviews flow sheet and layout and provides feedback to Sales Engineers on suitability of proposed equipment, operational feasibility and safety.
*Reports systemised feedback from existing installations to Sales Engineers, as a by-product of start-up assistance and survey analysis.
*Provides technical support to Sales Engineers and pilot plant staff for execution and interpretation of tests.
*Assists with R&D activities.

Contract

*Reviews the customer’s purchase order and specification to evaluate and mitigate risk related to process commitments and guarantees.
*Reviews and approves process calculations.
*Reviews and approves equipment specifications.
*Reviews and approves PID, layout, functional description, control strategy and safety interlocks.
*Evaluates new technologies and vendors in conjunction with Project Engineers.
*Visits customers’ sites to assist and advise during plant start-up and process commissioning.
*Ensures that management is kept informed of critical process related project issues.

Meetings

*Attends Kick-Off Meetings to report process issues, safety review, guarantee requirements and technical risk mitigation, to all other concerned departments.
*Participates in HazOp review of contracts.
*Prepares and presents technical presentations both internally and to customers.
*Ensures minutes of meetings relating to process and safety are prepared and correctly distributed throughout

Schedule

*Co-ordinates process commissioning and safety training.
*Ensures that required technical review, site visits and analysis of results are conducted and reported on timely basis.

Design

*Assists the Design/Drafting department with layout preparation.
*Provides technical support for design standards and equipment specifications.
*Develops and maintains process design tools.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*Chemical or Process Engineering degree, or equivalent.
*Ability to work in and supervise small teams
*Strong engineering capabilities in the fields of thermodynamics applied to air vapour systems, combustion processes, fluid mechanics applied to fans and air/gas distribution, mechanical handling, process control and environmental control.
*3 to 5 years’ experience of or similar technology.
*Depth of analysis.
*Comfortable in a computer environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Lotus Notes and the internet.
*Ability to adapt to fluctuating demands and to priorities
*Ability to supervise, motivate and impart training to others.
*Good communication and interpersonal skills.
*Clean drivers license desirable
