We have an exciting opportunity for Leaving Care Support Workers and/or Seniors, to join a brilliant transition service for care-leavers in Gloucester.
About the job:
You will be working in a Supported Housing environment with young people aged 16 – 18, who have previously lived in residential care for children with social/emotional/behavioural needs, attachment difficulties and complex, traumatic backgrounds.
This service provides safe accommodation and vital support to vulnerable young people who are leaving the care of the local authority, and aims to prepare the young people it supports for independent living after they turn 18.
The type of support you may provide in this role will include:
- Emotional support
- Help with budgeting
- Teaching young people how to cook and maintain a healthy diet
- Transporting young people to and from work / education / training / leisure activities
- Advocating for the young people you support
- to develop and improve social skills and communication skills
- Working with young people to improve their self-esteem and confidence
Working hours consist of 2 shifts of 2pm-10pm and 3 shifts of 10am-6pm per week. This includes 1 in 3 weekends, and potential for up to 2 sleep-ins per week.
Salary & Benefits
Salary for this role starts at £26,000per year for entry level Support Workers, up to £26,000 per year for experienced Seniors. You will also have the opportunity to earn up to £26,000 per year in sleep-in enhancements, based on 2 sleep-ins per week. Other plus benefits include:

Requirements:
To apply for this role you will need:
- Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject, and hold GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
- Prior experience working with young people, and experience working with care and support plans. (Experience of working with young people in a housing setting and/or of trauma-informed practices would be highly advantageous)
- Awareness and knowledge of issues relating to care leavers, housing, employment and welfare, as well as legislation and policies relevant to children and young people and safeguarding
- To be willing to complete Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce as well as further training and development (already holding a Level 3 in C&YPW would be highly desirable)
- To be empathetic, resilient, non-judgmental and a role model for young people
- A full UK driving license and use of your own car
