A leading School is seeking an experienced full time Heating Engineer/Plumber to work in a rewarding role during the week.

Summary of the Role:

As the Heating Engineer you will be able to work to relevant technical standards, follow technical literature/ drawings and plans to effectively carry out maintenance and improvement works. Alterations to the existing systems are to be reported back to the Estates Manager to ensure technical ACAD drawings remain up to date.

To undertake fault-finding analysis, maintenance, remedial works on a planned or reactive basis to ensure that the schools’ buildings can be operated safely and in compliance with appropriate regulatory standards and industry best practice.

Ensure inspections/checks are carried out and recorded on the necessary paperwork with follow-up actions reported to the Estates Manager or Building Services Compliance Technician to ensure asset registers remain up to date.

Review the efficiency of existing systems in order to meet industry best practice inline with L8 and WRAS

To assist with and supervise the work of external heating and plumbing contractors undertaking larger projects

Main Duties and responsibilities

* To carry out installation and maintenance work to heating, plumbing, drainage and sanitation installations of all types in domestic and commercial buildings and be fully conversant with all aspects of the heating systems that operate throughout the Schools.

* To undertake fault-finding, problem-solving, diagnosis and repair of performance concerns as may affect the operation and proper performance of the plumbing, drainage and heating systems

* To carry out periodic inspection and testing of gas and oil-fired installations and appliances to include completion of relevant test and maintenance certification in accordance with the relevant industry regulations (eg GAS SAFE; OFTEC; etc). To complete other forms of certification as may be appropriate (eg TMVs, etc).

* To carry out completion of relevant test certification on the schools’ heating equipment, plant and systems in accordance with all appropriate regulations. To complete other forms of regulatory certification as may be appropriate and within the remit of the post-holder’s relevant qualifications.

* To undertake associated multi-trades duties such as minor painting, general plastering and joinery work.

* To carry out and complete all works to a high standard, in a competent manner and to leave the site of works in a clean and tidy condition.

* To liaise with other staff and external contractors in a positive and co-operative manner and as necessary to ensure the timely and proper completion of works to support reasonable operational expectations.

* To ensure appropriate and timely completion of all paperwork, job/time sheets and certification and its recording within established archive and filing systems.

* To work with line manager and provide advice and information relating to technical matters.

* Ensure that any required qualifications for this position remain valid and that any necessary training is arranged and undertaken in accordance with appropriate timescales. To attend meetings, training sessions and conferences as required.

* To participate and provide an out of hours emergency service on a periodic basis and in association with the input of others.

* To act at all times in accordance with the Schools rules, policies, procedures and ethos.

* To supervise, direct and positively motivate other staff who may be appointed to assist and support the wider performance of this role.

* Be available for out of hours emergency call outs, if required

*

* To carry out, any other reasonable duties required by the Bursar or Estates Manager or within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role.

Holidays

There are twenty days annual holiday entitlement plus public holidays and the School may give additional days if the school closes between Christmas and the New Year.

Working Hours: 37½ hours per week 8am – 4.30pm (1 hour unpaid lunch break)
