The Role

Are you an experienced Estimator seeking a new challenge?

Here at Amey we have an exciting new opportunity for an Estimator to join the Consulting division, working across multiple projects ranging in value from £48,000 – £120,000 – £40m within our portfolio turning over £170m per annum.

Working closely with both operational, commercial and bidding teams, you will prepare detailed analytical tenders and estimates from first principles. Leading the estimating process on individual bids and also as part of a team on others whilst always supporting and mentoring junior members of the estimating team. You will contribute to pricing strategy, lead the tender review process and ensure all tenders are reviewed and submitted through the defined Governance Procedures.

This role can be undertaken on a remote basis, with some ad hoc travel for bid meetings. Main Amey offices located in Birmingham, Liverpool, Oxford.

Duties

Propose and promote innovative thinking to increase efficiencies and reduce cost base
Manage estimating KPI’s to ensure compliance.
Support project forecasting activities to ensure high level of accuracy.
Identify and flag project risks and opportunities for tender settlement review.
Assist in the drive to win additional work for the project.
Assist with the implementation of Pricing Strategy, participate in tender review process, implement contract feedback into future bids.
To undertake and assist with the management of and production, submission and negotiation of estimates and tenders.
Assist with Approvals process to ensure that all bids have the necessary approvals in accordance with Governance Procedures.
Prepare detailed analytical tenders and estimates from first principles within defined timescales both individually lead and as part of a wider team.
Ensure that estimating procedures are followed in the production of tenders.
Liaise with other members of the Estimating, Operational, Bidding and Commercial teams to deliver high quality estimates and tender submissions.
Maintain and update records of tenders including management of change control, assumptions, and decisions throughout the tender period production.
Prepare a comprehensive handover pack for the Operational & Commercial Project Teams on all successful tenders.
Ensure all tenders are reviewed to identify lessons learned.
Participate in the detailed risk assessment process on all bids.
Ensure all tenders are fully reviewed by the Senior Manager/Director with appropriate financial authority.
Develop a library of outputs and pricing data.
Record time spent on each tender using the bidding time recording system.
Assist in the production of bids in other parts of Amey when necessary.
Support operational projects when required.
Be able to communicate programme and risk related issues to the bid team
Have the ability to communicate complicated financial and contractual issues to senior management.

What will this role involve?

2-5 years estimating experience or commercial finance with estimating
Strong communicator with a positive and can-do approach.
Commercially aware and highly numerate
Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products especially Excel and Word
Ability to communicate complicated financial and contractual issues to senior management
Able to communicate programme and risk related issues to the bid team
Holder of valid UK driving licence
Experience of producing both small value fast turnaround and multi-disciplined high value, high quality tender submissions would be desirable.
Appreciation of Safety rules will be an advantage.
Degree qualified in relevant engineering technical or commercial discipline is desirable but not essential as experience will be taken into account.

This is a band C role and attracts a competitive salary, 24 days holiday (plus bank holidays), 37.5 hour working week, contributory pension and access to a range of Amey savings
