Based Bedford

An Engineering / Mechanical Design Manager is required to manage day-to-day activities of a busy Engineering and Design Office. You will provide timely and technically accurate information in support of Sales, Contracts and Operations. The company design and manufacture high value, low volume, specialist heavy capital equipment.

Key functions will include:

To lead and develop a culture of professional engineering practice and standards, paying attention to detail, and accuracy to information generated for other stakeholders.

Responsible for management and monitoring of team sickness, welfare, and performance in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Management of the Engineering department budget in conjunction with Operations Manager. 

Develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to complex engineering problems.

Provides guidance and direction on engineering design guides, standards, and systems.

Identifies opportunities for engineering process improvement by investment in new tools and techniques and supports continuous improvement & change management efforts around the business.

Candidates should be qualified to a minimum of HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering with strong, proven experience in technical, mechanical design team leadership / management. You will have a proven ability to manage and deliver major projects at a competitive cost and lead-time. Your technical knowledge will include knowledge of design tools and processes including, FEA, SoildWorks, ANSYS and AutoCAD.
