Interim R&D Manager / Engineering Manager

We are looking for a technically talented & delivery focussed Engineering Manager on an interim/contract basis for this growing communications technology company. This is a superb opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager / R&D Manager looking for an interesting and well paid assignment at a company with a truly unique product offering. Initial assignment will be a 3-6months contract but may well be extended (or may ultimately be offered temp-to-perm if you are interested).

Reporting to the CTO, this role will give you overall engineering management responsibility for a small but growing team of highly talented Electronics Engineers and Software Engineers working on the design and implementation of a cutting edge mobile communications platform.

This is a highly technical role which requires a strong Electronics Engineering background ideally covering RF & mobile communications technologies, together with an understanding of the associated embedded software, as well as proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary team to meet product delivery deadlines

Engineering Manager Responsibilities:

Delivery of new technologies and products to production quality in accordance with the Product Road Map and programme plan
Man management responsibility for the Electronics Hardware and Software Team leaders and the Engineers who report into them
Project Lead activities for specific development projects, including managing external development partners as required
Manage resource planning for Hardware and Software teams with input from Team Leaders
Input into Product Roadmap in conjunction with Product Management and CTO

Skills & Experience Required:

Strong R&D technical background ideally in communication technologies including RF hardware and wireless products up to 3GHz. Experience should have gained within a mobile communications environment (GSM, 3G, 4G, WB-CDMA, 802.11, Bluetooth, TETRA, etc) would be particularly welcome.
Proven experience of leading a multidisciplinary team (Electronics Engineers and embedded Software Engineers) to successfully meet deliverable objectives within a small but growing technology company
Proven experience of successfully line managing a mixed team of software and hardware engineers, identifying and resolving any team or personnel issues quickly and effectively
Ability to work in a collaborative environment and bring others on board with proposed plans and ideas
Demonstrable ability to quickly become a credible and trusted voice within the product development process
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, proactively identifying and escalating issues early and appropriately
Ability to quickly gain sufficient knowledge and understanding of new technology and systems and establish credibility with those with greater specific technical knowledge
Experience with DFM and DFT methodologies and transfer to production
A good degree (BEng, MEng, etc) in a numerate discipline such as Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics or equivalent experience.
