The client:

An innovative packaging manufacturer supplying blue chip customers in the FMCG sector.

Primary role:

Develop and implement manufacturing strategy and operational plans to deliver products to customers on time, fit for purpose to meet operational needs according to the company’s strategic objectives. Provides leadership to develop Operational Excellence initiatives through the use of best practice manufacturing techniques.

Responsibilities:

· Leads the operations team to produce and deliver products to customer expectations and establishes processes and controls in key deliverable areas such as housekeeping, waste reduction, capacity utilization and production efficiencies
· Provides leadership to Operational Excellence initiatives through the use of Continuous Improvement & Lean tools (e.g. lean, six sigma, kaizen, 5S, SMED)
· Works with, mentors and empowers direct reports to drive cultural change toward rapid process improvement and process ownership.
· Provides leadership for problem resolution.
· Develops and manages the departmental budget.
· Leads the team to improve, automate, and streamline current operations procedures to maximise contribution to the profitability of the firm and longer term business goals.

Essential attributes:

· Experienced production and operations professional within the packaging sector (e.g. labels, flexible packaging, rigid plastic packaging, printed folded cartons or corrugated manufacturing).
· Expert in the implementation of lean manufacturing and associated positive cultural change for a packaging business. Has established and led change which has enabled a company to modernize its working practices.
· Hands-on and accountable for the operations function (production and logistics). Leads from the front but from a position of mentoring, empowerment and achieving objectives with the engagement of the workforce.
· A sound working knowledge of health & safety, environmental and waste control in a manufacturing environment.
