We are currently seeking an Operations Manager for our client in Haydock. Our client is an established business turning over c. £100m

The site:

The Haydock site is a 28,000 ft2 distribution site covering the whole of the North West, selling into National, Regional and Local Timber and Builders Merchants, End User Fabricators, System Build and Joinery Manufacturers.

The Job:

The Operations Manager will work closely with the Site Director, ensuring the efficient management of the depot. Responsible for a Transport Manager and Team Leader, with 4 Forklift Drivers and 4 Drivers, the Operations Manager will oversee c. 400 SKUs and 4 company owned wagons (plus third party) making c. 50 deliveries per day.

Principal responsibilities of the role:

Operations

* Manage the planning and efficient lay-out of stock within the unit and its ongoing housekeeping.

* Ensure that centrally developed guidance on standard operating practice is applied to all aspects of the site’s operations.

* Recruitment and performance management of warehouse personnel.

* Responsible for managing all aspects of warehouse operations including order picking, goods-in / customer delivery paperwork, customer own collections and general housekeeping.

* Ensure that the warehouse operates to the documentary and physical requirements of the Company’s environmental Chain of Custody policy commitments (FSC & PEFC).

* Liaise with the inventory co-ordinator and Site Director on stock control and supplier delivery planning.

* Oversee the maintenance and management of all warehouse equipment including fork lift trucks, packaging equipment and other assets.

* Liaise with the Site Director on site operational working hours and shift plans.

* Manage the site’s waste management programme and 3rd party facility provider.

* Ensure that all aspects of the Company’s Health & Safety / PPE policy are implemented and maintained within the warehouse areas.

* Manage a continuing process of rolling stock audits to ensure stock record accuracy.

* Oversee regular statutory fire alarm & evacuation tests.

* Regularly review all electrical lights and equipment at the site and arrange maintenance where necessary.

Transport

* Manage the daily journey planner to optimize customer service and haulage efficiency, including maximum use of multi-drop route planning.

* Liaise with other Falcon sites to make maximum use of delivery resources at both locations and to manage stock transfers between sites.

* Recruitment and performance management of own and agency drivers.

* Management and optimization of fuel usage by own fleet.

* Development and management of partnerships with third party distribution providers.

* Manage the site’s ongoing driver CPC training programme.

* Oversee own vehicle maintenance and MOT scheduling programme.

* Management and maintenance of the site’s Operator’s Licenses.

* Monitor driver’s hours and infringements to increase efficiency.

* Liaise with VOSA and other relevant Government agencies as required.
