Salary: £30,000 – £42,000 per year

At Wessex Water we are committed to continuously improving our performance and are moving towards a more efficient data lead culture. As such, we have begun the journey of using data science techniques to help better understand our assets, inform maintenance activities and improve asset management.

This has allowed us to create a brand-new opportunity for a Data Analyst, principally looking at Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) on combined sewer overflows and sewage pumping stations, as well as burst detection on rising mains and mechanical screen operation.

The role

As Data Analyst, you will focus on the proactive monitoring, analysis and interpretation of issues in the wastewater network. You will need to identify emerging problems and trends, proposing actions/solutions before impacts to customers or the environment occur.

You will oversee the installation and maintenance of telemetry systems and help to develop and implement analytical tools/methods to guide the Operational team’s activities. Out-of-hours stand-by may be required.

Responsibilities include:

  • a wide range of data analysis on sewerage assets
  • utilising analytical software/tools (eg, Storm Harvester, Amulet and QlikView)
  • proposing solutions/actions to developing and historic issues
  • informing proactive and efficient operational maintenance
  • liaising and engaging with operational field staff/other teams
  • identifying erroneous/poor data and driving improvement in data quality.

What do I need?

To be considered for this opportunity, you will have strong data analysis and interpretation skills, and/or good experience of asset management and maintenance or experience working in wastewater networks. A good understanding of how telemetry systems are configured on site and monitored centrally would also be beneficial.

Additionally, the below skills/experience are desirable:

  • data science/statistics skills
  • an analytical approach to problem identification and resolution
  • machine learning experience
  • in or a good understanding of the water industry
  • excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • excellent IT/computer science skills
  • mechanical and/or electrical awareness
  • self-motivated and the ability to prioritise/organise work
  • a degree or HNC/HND in engineering or a science-based subject.
