Java Developer

Fast-growing, award-winning data visualisation, management and reporting software development company seeks a highly-motivated, experienced Java Developer to join a small, highly-talented team. Role involves independent and team-based work on our Application – a cutting-edge custom Java based interactive, user-facing application with a fast growing blue-chip list of reference clients.
Opportunity to grow with this 12 year old company (based in Chelsea SW3) as it further develops our desktop application to address a portfolio of new features and initiatives such as Java / HTML / CSS3.

Key skills:
– 5+ years commercial Java development, architecting and developing scalable 2+ tier and/or distributed
applications
– Guru level at Java core, networking, collections, algorithms, multithreading/concurrency/parallelism
– Object Oriented Programming, design patterns, best practices
– Full development cycle inc. support, QA & testing
– Fluent English speaker; strong communicator

Useful skills:
SQL/JDBC/DBA, data analysis/statistics (R, predictive), TDD, Web development (HTML5, CSS3, JSON,
JavaScript, Google Closure library/compiler), Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Map/Reduce, HBase, Hive, NoSQL,
MongoDB, Impala), distributed systems, cloud computing, internet/network protocols, data visualisation/charting,
usability/UX, Swing, Mercurial/Git
(J2EE experience not relevant)

Education:
– Education in area of maths & sciences.
– Degree level 1st (not necessarily in computing).
– Multiple A’s at A-level and GCSEs, particularly in sciences & maths.
Subjective requirements:

– Ability to self-motivate.
– Ability to work in a highly dynamic environment.
– Ability to solve problems and think unassisted.
