Salary: £42,000 – £48,000 per year

My client is a young and vibrant company which has three divisions. Construction, Civil Engineering and High End Fit Outs.

They have offices in both Yorkshire and London and sites across the UK.

Due to their continued success they are now looking to recruit an Estimator/Bid Manager for their Construction Division.

The Construction Division delivers a range of projects, from residential and commercial developments to hotel, leisure and sports facilities. They approach every project, regardless of size or value with an unrelenting drive and passion. This is a permanent full-time role based in our Leeds Office, although frequent visits to site will be required.
As an Estimator/Bid Manager you will be responsible for all aspects of the tendering process, from pre-qualification through to tender submission, and then on award, ensuring a smooth transition and handover to a live site.

Detail
You will be responsible for:
• Managing multiple bids and take overall charge of the projects, reporting regularly to the Divisional Director.
• Producing estimates from the first principal of the lowest feasible prime cost in accordance with relevant procedures, documents, tender deadlines, and information provided by members of the bid team. This may include production of: bills of quantities; activity schedules; schedules of rates; dayworks.
• Working with production staff to establish methodology, programme, resource requirements etc.
• Working with Commercial and Procurement staff to identify sub-contractor packages, prepare enquiries, and select suppliers in order to obtain the required number of compliant competitive quotations.
• Where necessary producing programmes to assist in establishing resource requirements.
• Contributing to risk review/assessment process where required.
• Taking part in review and handover meetings as required.
• Producing commercial information in the prescribed format and detail to the commercial delivery team.
• Operating within the practice and procedures of the quality system.
• Taking due regard of all health and safety issues, both in preparation of tender information and in undertaking of own duties and responsibilities.
• Working with members of bid/delivery team to assemble supporting information for tender review and submission.
• Assisting as required in post tender negotiations.
• Keeping abreast of operating/installation methods adopted on site, and the resources required in same, through visits to site and discussions with management.
• Working to best practice throughout estimating function based on established procedures.
• Discharging safety critical duties and responsibilities.

Skills, Experience and Personal Qualities
• Practical contracting experience in the construction industry.
• Contractual knowledge and awareness and experience of estimating packages.
• Knowledge of materials, procedures and standards.
• Passionate about your role and self-motivated.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build lasting, successful relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and other personnel.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills.
• Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to secure the best possible outcome for the business, whilst preserving future client relationships.
• An analytical approach to challenges and a positive approach to problem solving.
• A strong team player.
• Possesses a great attention to detail, accurate and numerate.
• Reliable, proactive and shows initiative.
• Able to keep cool under pressure and when working to demanding deadlines.

Education/Qualifications/Training
• Construction related academic qualification, e.g. Degree or HNC/HND Building.
• Membership of a professional body would be desirable.
