System Administrator – Linux
Kirkby in Ashfield (hybrid / work from home up to 2 days per week)
Cicrca £45,000 – £50,000 neg. depending on experience
About them:
My client is a well-established, global trader operating from multi million pound premises in the Mansfield area of Nottingham. They are a family owned business with solid values and many of their workforce stay at the company for the whole of their career. This role has been created due to growth of the company.
Overview:
To work proactively to support and maintain the company’s Linux servers, database installations, scripting environments including overnight and live processing, SQL scripts and printing processes within mainly on-premise VMware environment. The role has the scope to develop according to the candidate and may come to include working with containers, cloud deployments, Azure DevOps administration, Azure AD/O365 administration, system development and the production of forms-based documentation.
Duties:
- Maintenance of existing Linux virtual machines (CentOS, SuSe and Debian) including testing updates and patches as required
- Creating new Linux systems as required
- Creating and maintaining bash scripts including SQL statements
- Database installation, configuration, and maintenance of various DB engines
- Maintaining CUPS and other printing configurations
- Documenting existing systems
- EDI data transfers
- Forms-based documentation using DocOrigin and Jetform
Continuous Improvement
- Keeping up to date with new and changing technologies
- Identifying improvements to current systems
- Identifying how technology can help the company in all areas
Person Specification:
Technical Skills:
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux systems (CentOS, Suse and Debian)
- Bash scripting and other common Linux tools (sed, awk, lftp, rsync, etc.)
- Database knowledge including SQL
- Git version control
- Forms-based software (DocOrigin / Jetform)
- Python
- VMware vSphere
- Veeam
- Azure AD/O365
- Sans / Switches / UPSs
Person Skills:
- Enthusiastic and highly motivated
- Friendly, approachable, and flexible
- Have a determined and meticulous approach to work
- Organised and methodical
- Loves problem solving and creating solutions showing their own initiative
- Able to work on their own and as part of a collaborative team
Other Information:
- Monday to Friday. The start and finish times are flexible between 8am – 9am and 4.30pm – 5.30pm
- Remote working available – ideally with an office catch up every now and again
