Assistant Production Manager require in Dumfries & Galloway
Assistant Production Manager
Our client is a large manufacturer of machinery parts for the farming industry based in the Dumfries & Galloway area of Scotland – You will report to the Production Manager & Operations Manager and form an integral part of the management team
The post holder will:
* Act as site expert for health, safety and environmental activities, ensuring compliance and carrying out associated administrative duties.
* Deputise for the Production Manager in their absence.
* Act as site expert and main driver in relation to ‘HR’ activities for production personnel, carrying out associated administrative duties.
* Manage and contribute towards continuous improvement activities across the site.
HEALTH & SAFETY
* Carry out the role of Health and Safety Co-ordinator for the site, liaising with and seeking guidance from our H&S Consultant regarding current and future requirements.
* Ensure that the site is fully compliant with legislative requirements.
* Ensure that forthcoming changes are communicated to relevant managers/staff members in a timely manner and that action plans are created, delivered and monitored where appropriate.
QUALITY
* Ensure that the site has appropriate health and safety policies and systems in place, including but not limited to risk assessments, fire procedures, DSE assessments, COSHH, first aid, accident investigation and reporting, PAT etc. Oversee or carry out actions as required. Ensure delivery and monitoring against actions.
* Perform all necessary administrative requirements or ensure that these are assigned to appropriate personnel (monitoring if work is delegated).
* Keep accurate and up-to-date records.
* Monitor trends etc and identify areas for improvement.
* Co-ordinate and deputise for the Chair at site H&S meetings.
PRODUCTION
* Deputise for the Production Manager in their absence.
* Hands-on support to all business areas as and when required, whether that be due to staff shortage, busy periods etc.
* Identify, plan, deliver, monitor and review (or support) ad-hoc projects that contribute to business success and effectiveness (following approval by the Operations Manager).
HUMAN RESOURCES
* Act as HR Co-ordinator for production personnel only, as follows:
* Encourage best practice and support managers with staffing matters (as listed below).
* Oversee/carry out ‘HR’ processes including but not limited to recruitment administration, starter/leaver administration (including issuing of T&Cs), induction, training, absence management, time off requests, employee relations and leavers in a legally compliant manner (seeking professional advice when required). Ensure that appropriate correspondence is issued.
TRAINING
* Support managers to identify training needs across all production areas.
* Maintain training matrix to capture basic, essential and job specific development needs.
* Manage training plan to deliver against requirements.
* Support Production Manager with succession planning and associated development needs.
* Create and deliver training in areas of own speciality (eg H&S, CI, lean), organise other training/development as required (once approved by Operations Manager).
* Maintain accurate training records.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
* In conjunction with the Production and Operations Managers, identify and prioritise projects ensuring that progress is tracked, and results are reported that deliver increased performance for the site.
* Help to identify and implement improvements to standard work practices.
* Apply problem solving skills and root cause analysis techniques to prevent recurrence of problems.
ISO ACCREDITATION
* Ensure that the organisation retains relevant standards (currently ISO9001), dealing with all administrative, planning and reporting requirements, advising management of progress, action required and monitoring accordingly.
* Lead investigations into non-compliance and implement/oversee corrective actions.
* Carry out internal audits as required.
