Trainee Support Analyst / Programmer
JOB PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE:
– To provide front line IT support for all software solutions used within Ainscough Crane Hire.
– To ensure that calls for support are dealt with promptly and appropriately.
– To complete software application installations / upgrades.
– Where applicable create in-house software solutions.
– To liaise with the in-house infrastructure team to provide the best overall IT solution for the business.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
– To provide system support to telephone and email requests from users for all applications used within the business.
– To work with 3rd party providers in order to document, test and implement changes required by the business.
– To build a good working knowledge of all systems used within the business
– To log support calls and document their outcome in order to facilitate the resolution of common queries.
– Correct errors by making appropriate changes and then rechecking the program to ensure that the desired results are produced.
– Conduct trial runs of programs and software applications to be sure they will produce the desired information and that the instructions are correct.
– Compile and write documentation of program development and subsequent revisions, inserting comments in the coded instructions so others can understand the program.
– Perform systems analysis and programming tasks to maintain and control the use of computer systems software as a systems programmer.
– Continually seek to improve the way in which the role operates within the business to achieve its objectives
– Undertake other duties that management may reasonably request
PERSON PROFILE:
Qualification/ Experience
Support (Essential)
– Needs to work well within a small team
– IT helpdesk experience
– Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels.
– Ability to communicate effectively with 3rd party suppliers to log, monitor and escalate issues logged.
– The ability to investigate and solve software faults
– Ability to train and mentor non IT Staff and members within the authority
– Knowledge of databases such as SQL/Oracle
Programming (Desirable)
– HTTP / ASP / ASP.NET (Web programming)
– XML / XSLT (XML & Stylesheets for ERP System)
– VB / VB.NET
– VBA (Excel macros)
– SQL
Special knowledge/ Role requirements
– Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and work to deadlines
– The ability to troubleshoot a variety of IT-related issues and resolve user issues
– High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
– Ability to provide concise documentation
– Ability to work on own initiative and make balanced decisions
– A positive can do attitude and flexibility in taking on a broad range of IT responsibilities and tasks at short notice
– The ability to quickly learn new operating procedures and maintain established systems
– Approachable with good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with staff effectively at all levels
– A commitment towards delivering quality customer service to internal and external customers
