International Support Personnel (ISP) – Test & Validation (China Based)

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

” Based in China (Shanghai) with extended periods at climatic and durability test locations.
” Act as a technical expert focusing on whole vehicle performance and durability testing
” Liaise with all functional areas in order to capture whole vehicle requirements and optimise planning
” Regularly conduct static & dynamic evaluations of durability test fleets and participate in end of life tear down activities.
” Determination of relevant development & validation tests required throughout programmes
” Support component test rig and chamber testing when required
” Liaise with other functions with regards to development and specification test activities
” Update and develop test standards and procedures where required
” Identify test issues, raise TIR (Test Incident Reports) conduct problem analysis, support problem resolution and monitor closure
” Conduct high value relevant test activities including coast down, pass by and climatic tests including planning and preparation
” Assist in the organisation & participate in PAP (Product Attribute Profile) & VET (Vehicle Evaluation Team) events.
” Conduct vehicle attribute benchmarking events, plan and organise tear down activity as required.
” Assist T&V Engineers & CoC areas in conducting vehicle dynamic tests
” Maintain regular communication links between UK & CN T&V departments (First point of contact)
” Act as a mentor in the development of graduate and inexperienced engineers
” Aid in the continuous development of the Global Test & Validation departments by reviewing current processes, regulations and suggest ideas to improve them.
” Develop & deliver regular training activities focusing on vehicle system knowledge, instrumentation, driving skill development & subjective vehicle evaluation.
” Assist Prototype build department in assessing and shaking down of test vehicles
” Help improve English language skills within the department. Proof read presentations, test reports, TIR’s and procedures prior to them being published.
” Identify opportunities for vehicle weight, cost and fuel efficiency improvements
” Support PR & Marketing departments with customer, dealer events and participate in filming activities as necessary.

CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

” HND/Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
” Proven Test & Development experience (Vehicle Performance & Durability testing)
” Detailed working knowledge of all vehicle systems & components with a good understanding of Vehicle Integration
” High standard of driving competence – Limit handling & Advance Roadcraft experience
” Expert understanding of Subjective Vehicle Evaluation (R202 is desirable)
” Working knowledge of Vehicle test equipment & instrumentation
” Understanding of Global Vehicle Development Processes such as GVDP, GPDS or FPDS
” Test planning experience (DVP/ADV, PRINCE 2)
” Ability to work Internationally (China & Thailand) – Previous overseas work experience would be an advantage
” Keen mindset to develop & mentor graduate engineers
” Understanding of problem resolution techniques i.e. 8D or 6 Sigma methodologies
” Good presentation skills & ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the business
” Working knowledge of PC tools e.g. PowerPoint, word, excel & project
” Ability to self manage with good organisational & prioritisation skills
” Flexibility to support all areas of T&V and CoC functions when required
” Experience using internationally recognised Test facilities & Proving grounds

Desirable
” Management/Team leading experience
” 6 Sigma Green belt accreditation
” Experience of GM, MGRES or JLR test standards
” Basic Chinese language skills (Not essential as training will be provided)
” Driver training or Subjective evaluation instructor experience
” Previous experience supporting PR & Marketing activities
” Good understanding of Vehicle Dynamics & associated control systems
” A basic understanding of global homologation requirements
” Membership to a industry recognised Institute such as IMechE
