We’ll be running Great Northern (which connects King’s Lynn, Cambridge and Peterborough), Thameslink, which runs between Bedford, Luton, Sevenoaks, Gatwick and Brighton and Southern and Gatwick Express providing train services for commuters, airport users, business and leisure travellers between Central London and the South coast, through East and West Sussex, Surrey and parts of Kent and Hampshire.

As the Team Leader you will lead and motivate your team to ensure they work together safely and effectively to meet required standards and specifications.

Position Summary

Key Role Responsibilities and Accountabilities
*Principle purpose to lead a team to carry out heavy overhauls on various fleets operated by Southern, overhaul to be completed in line with Fleet standards.
*To lead the UAT and the lathe operators, liaising with fleet control to assist in planning this work.
*Assess, motivate, train and develop staff to maintain an effective workforce capable of meeting its objectives. Identify shortfalls in staff competency and ensure development of training plan to encompass technical, safety, train care and personal development.
*Prioritise and manage your own and your team’s workload liaising with relevant departments as necessary.
*Provide technical advice and make decisions based on technical knowledge within limited timescales to group standard guidelines.
*Ensure safety standards are met and maintained and all relevant procedures followed.
*Provide information and regular feedback to the Production Managers and Fleet Technical department.
*Ensure staff are available when required by monitoring leave and absence.
*Provide information and feedback through regular team briefs.
*Ensure upkeep of IT Systems (e.g., XV and other locally controlled databases).
*Ensure compliance of safety systems through regular monitoring.
*Ensure unit record sheets are maintained liaising with the Admin department.

Job Requirements

Mandatory Requirements:
*Served an apprenticeship or equivalent supported by appropriate technical studies.
*Demonstrable experience of working with rolling stock.
*Proven technical fault finding track record.

Skills:
*Familiar with rolling stock maintained at Selhurst Depot.
*Able to lead and manage large groups through complicated & demanding schedules
