Purpose

This role is accountable for leading platform services and support team members (and 3rd party resources where required) to deploy, monitor, manage, and support the infrastructure & products within the AQA Assessment Technology portfolio.

Turning vision and priorities from senior management into achievable departmental goals, this role is responsible for providing clear direction to inspire and motivate team members and other colleagues towards meeting objectives.

 

Landscape

The Assessment Technology group is responsible for the operational systems that deliver millions of GCSE and A-level results annually. It includes the technology for assessment design and production, and the full lifecycle of exams series delivery from entry to post-results services.

The Platform Services and Support Manager will line manage the team members and work closely with the Architecture and Software teams and other roles who are responsible for the delivery of planned change and support for the strategic and mission-critical systems that underpin AQA’s core assessment proposition.

 

Need to Know

  • Significant experience of managing the provision and support of Azure platforms and systems in high-stakes and regulated environments.
  • Experience with ITIL practices and preferably certified beyond Foundation level.
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge to be able to create, drive, innovate and assess technical solutions across a range of technologies and platforms.
  • Structured thinking approach, able to lead groups of people to break down and resolve complex and ambiguous problems in time-pressured environments, recognising and balancing technical against operational and commercial factors.
  • Passion for continuous improvement, to increase quality, reliability, and dependability whilst controlling costs.
