Serious Crime Investigator

Section: Major Crime Report to: Senior Serious Crime Investigator
Jon purpose:To participate as part of a team dedicated to the review and analysis of serious/major crime investigations and the re-investigation of unresolved cold cases.To review records and documentation obtained during the course of such investigations to ensure legal and procedural compliance and to identify further investigative opportunities.To participate in the monitoring and identification of best practice in crime management and criminal investigations in general.To participate in the individual management reviews of police agency actions in the case of Domestic Homicide Reviews and Serious Case Reviews.
Essential knowledge and experience includes:An in-depth criminal investigation background
An in-depth knowledge of major incident room procedures
Experience of reviewing murders / serious crime investigations
Experience in investigating complex and protracted enquiries
Experience of investigating Domestic Violence and Child Protection cases
Experience of authoring complex reports
Holmes 2 Major Incident Room training
File management
Preparation of prosecution files
Liaising with CPS, Legal Representatives and other agencies involved in crime investigations.Procedures in relation to RIPA and information handling Disclosure
The ability to interview suspects and witnesses in accordance with current legislation, policies, procedures, Codes of Practice and guidelines in relation to the conduct of interviews together with a knowledge of disclosure issues.
