Senior Structural Design Engineer

Our client, a very well established and cutting edge Design Consultancy is looking to strengthen its Head Office by recruiting a Senior Structural Design Engineer.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
A successful career in structural engineering with consultants with a particular expertise of building structures, both the design of new build and refurbishment of existing. Knowledge of complementary engineering designs and experience of working on multi-disciplinary projects. A minimum of 8 years experience is required.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
Excellent analytical and design skills
Conversant with all modern building materials and systems
Conversant with all applicable design codes and standards
A knowledge of site practices and procedures
Ability to develop detailed designs in communication with the client and other designers
Capable of representing the company at meetings
Ability to work under limited guidance and manage time effectively

PERSONAL QUALITIES
Enthusiasm, tidy appearance, flexible, willingness to learn, but able to lead when required. To be able to work on own initiative and/or within a multi-disciplinary team and to manage a variable and changeable workload.
Ability to identify with our various clients, both external and internal.
A willingness to assist the other departments in Engineering, being Rail and Maritime, where workload requires.
Need to be familiar with the use of structural design programmes such as Fastrak and TEDDS. An understanding of AutoCAD and/or Micro station and be competent in the use of other MS applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and MS Project. Training will be given where required.

1 To assist the profit centre manager in the efficient and profitable running of the profit centre, preparing programmes for work and assessing resource requirements. 10%
2 To liaise with our clients at the inception of projects and develop and agree project briefs. 5%
3 To assist in the preparation of fee proposals. 5%
4 To prepare designs for structural projects including gaining all necessary statutory approvals and ensure that all projects have been adequately checked before issue of drawings and documents. 70%
5 To manage junior staff and technicians within the profit centre. 5%
