Salary: £42,000 – £57,600 per year
Our client is a major employer with an expanding global market in precision manufacturing industries. We are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to provide software development for a core product development division.
The ideal candidate will be someone who understands the principles of sensors, actuators, electro-mechanical systems, servo control etc, or at least has the physics and maths background to quickly acquire that understanding. This expertise is needed in the development of control and data processing algorithms. The implementation (i.e. coding) of those algorithms in an embedded system is just part of the role. So experience of embedded coding is just part of the requirement – if anything the understanding of the physical principles of “real world” devices is more important than coding experience.
Key duties:
• To work as part of the division’s real time embedded software team
• To design new motion control algorithms, and create real time software implementations of the algorithms
• To gain a deep knowledge of the existing features of the controllers, and make enhancements where required
• To write software test specifications and design documentation of a high standard
• To provide support to the Division’s application engineers in understanding the features of the controller
Skills and experience sought include:
• A solid engineering background, with experience in real time embedded system design and implementation
• Strong knowledge and experience of using the C programming language
• Strong mathematical skills are important, including an understanding of 3D geometry
• The role requires the ability to design algorithms to control electro-mechanical systems using feedback from various types of sensor, so an appreciation of the principles of such systems is required
• Familiarity with software hardware interfaces, as the role may require collaboration with hardware design teams
• The ability to estimate development timescales and produce high quality design documentation
The following would also be beneficial:
• Knowledge of the QNX Momentics integrated development environment
• Some familiarity with Microsoft’s component object model (COM)
• Experience of C# development
