A quick look at the role.
Reporting into the Operations Manager you will support the site management in the day-to-day management/supervision of the facility and it teams in achieving its targets and goals.
The Biffa division you’ll be supporting.
Within Resources & Energy we focus on the treatment, recycling and disposal of waste. It provides a number of treatment services for those materials that can be recovered and landfill disposal for those that are not suitable for recycling or energy recover.
Our MRF’s are four automated facilities capable of handling 470k tonnes per annum of mixed recycling (this is equivalent to the household recycling of 4 million people). The facilities sort dry mixes recyclables ready for use as secondary raw materials in manufacturing processes.

• To maintain H&S standards and performance on site.
• To support the 4 Production Shift Supervisors of the Material Recycling Facility.
• Monitor and review production teams to ensure continuous improvement.
• Reporting and recording deficiencies within the plant.
• Monitoring staff training and compliance and support the management of production teams.
• Liaise with the management team on the plant’s operational performance.
• To deputise in the absence of the Operations Manager.
• To liaise with external and internal customers and contractors in a professional manner.
• Assist in the investigation of accident and incidents.
• Assist the team in the achievement of the sites KPI’s
• Formulate Risk Assessment and SOP’s and undertake Toolbox talks.
Requirements
Here’s what we require:
- Previous experience and knowledge gained in the waste sector e.g. MRF’s, PRF’s RDF processing, AD, MBT plants (Essential). Other Heavy production industry experience considered.
- Previous management/supervisor experience of working with large teams predominantly in Production/Manufacturing environments (Essential)
- Working knowledge of H&S, IOSH (Essential).
- WAMITAB (Desirable)
- Knowledge and understanding of ISO accreditations and requirements.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word etc)
- A general understanding on engineering/mechanical principles (Desirable)
