Job description
We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our new Digital Services team to deliver a diverse and successful portfolio of projects. The workload is varied and interesting, and you will get the opportunities to transform your knowledge, experience and ideas into the design and implementation of a new software development service.

The Department for Transport’s (DfT) Digital Service is a leading-edge government capability that provides digital, data and technology (DDaT) to our users. We were established in September 2017 and deliver a blend of services, primarily to our ministerial department.

This role will be responsible for leading the CI/CD technical design, development, support and delivery of digital solutions, services and interfaces, applying DevOps mentality with a team of software developers, UX designers, data engineers and database administrators.

Responsibilities
Includes but not limited to;
• Be Responsible for leading the CI/CD technical design, development, support and delivery of digital solutions, services and interfaces, applying DevOps mentality with a team of software developers, UX designers, data engineers and database administrators.
• You will lead by example in the application of DevOps techniques.
• Interact with stakeholders across departments and reach and influence a wide range of people across larger teams and communities. Having the ability to present highly technical information in a confident, clear, concise direct manner to a less technical audience.
• Be an evangelist of the DevOps way of working
• Define best practices for implementing, supporting and maintaining Devops within area of specialism, ensuring that these best practices are adopted and followed by Devops engineers and other teams within Digital Service.

Have proven experience in the following:
• Cloud technologies including of the public cloud technologies (GCP, Azure or AWS)
• Agile development and detailed knowledge and experience of CI/CD pipelines. Git knowledge is essential.
• Deployment automation technologies (Ansible, Terraform, Cloudbuild etc)
• Docker and Kubernetes
• Programming skills in Python or similar.

About You
To thrive in this role, you will need to have significant experience of working in a cloud environment with specific experience around Google Cloud Platforms. You will have experience of designing Cloud CI/CD pipelines that is are automated, repeatable, scalable and highly available. The successful candidate will need to be able to connect with a variety of business stakeholders around different options within the cloud platform.
