Job Profile
As the successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you will be working alongside an existing team of multi-disciplinary design engineers consisting of mechanical, electrical and optical design engineers. You will be responsible for development, design and production of new products. You will be involved in designing quality products using injection moulded, extruded, cast and machined parts as well and optics, electronics and mechanisms. The position will involve working on projects through all phases of the new product introduction process.
Duties
* Design and develop new products while working closely with other team members
* Liaise with external consultants, suppliers, toolmakers, test houses and an internal, onsite assembly department and machine shop
* Ensure designs meet expected quality and performance requirements
* Project manage projects and follow NPI process
* Compile technical files to show compliances
* Keep up to date with new digital technologies and sub systems
* Work with purchasing and suppliers to ensure designs meet cost constraints
Skills & Experience
* Degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design, or otherwise significant proven track record
* Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering
* Experience of managing new projects
* Ideally an understanding of electronics, electrical assemblies, PCB layout and power requirements
* Familiarity of digital imaging technologies would be an advantage
* Experience in the design of precision mechanical products involving intricate mechanical assemblies and mechanisms incorporating plastic mouldings, die castings and machined components
* Experience of tolerance studies, numerical design calculations, FEA and BOM costs
* Extensive experience of 3D CAD systems is essential, Creo would be an advantage
