Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per year
My client wish to recruit a Scientific/Laboratory Administrator to work 4-5 days per week.
The successful candidate will work on Procurement and Dispatch activities and report to the Senior Procurement and Dispatch Officer. The candidate will be responsible for the purchase and dispatch of equipment, as well as carefully packing the equipment to be shipped.
Duties include:
*Ordering equipment and consumables
*Maintaining stock records
*Testing laboratory protocols
*Maintaining the store facility and being responsible for Health and Safety activities and Dangerous Goods
*Store and dispatch duties include receipt of goods, inspection of products, picking and packing of laboratory equipment and consumables, as well as general stores housekeeping
*Administrative support
The successful candidate will be physically fit to manage manual handling aspects of the role, will have a background in laboratory research, preferably molecular biology, good IT and writing skills and be well-organised with good attention to detail.
Skills and experience required:
Essential
* Physically fit to manage manual handling aspects of the role
* A background in laboratory research, preferably molecular biology
* Familiarity with laboratory work and equipment
* A graduate, or with equivalent qualifications and experience
* Good IT skills, including knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook Microsoft packages
* Familiarity with database and accounting packages
* Familiarity using the internet
* Proven administrative experience
* Good writing skills
* Ability to work independently
* Flexible approach and outlook
* Able to prioritise tasks
* Driver with own car
* Well organised and methodical, with a keen eye for detail, and a willingness to learn about plant science and modern methods of plant breeding
Desirable
* Knowledge of, and interest in, plant sciences (particularly crop science)
* Knowledge of, and interest in, Africa and India
* Familiarity with academic environments / research funding processes / journal articles and research papers
* Working knowledge of other IT packages, such as Access, Publisher and PowerPoint
* Familiarity purchasing scientific equipment and consumables
* Dangerous goods shipping
* Experience in stores operations
* Knowledge of customs procedures and documents
