Regional Security Manager (North / Mids)

Palmer McCarthy have been exclusively instructed by one of the country’s leading construction firms to assist with the recruitment of a Regional security manager (North and Midlands)

This post which will report to the Deputy Global Head of Security, will work as part of a small corporate security, risk management and business resilience team. The focus of the role is to develop and embed world class security solutions which protect the Group’s people, physical assets, information and reputation within a global construction and engineering environment. The role will be required to operate mainly at an operational and tactical level but also on occasions at a strategic, corporate level and will be one of the Group’s security experts with the ability to operate and influence across all business functions within the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice, guidance and influence to senior managers, key stakeholders and employees across the organisation and with a particular focus on construction sites
• work within a small security and business resilience team who work remotely and also alongside other colleagues who have a security function to their role
• Develop and maintain high quality strategic and tactical threat and risk assessments to our business and our people and develop effective control measures to manage them
• Develop appropriate strategies, plans and policies across the Group that proactively contribute to the safety and security of our workforce and the reduction of harm, loss and damage to our physical assets, data, information, reputation and business resilience
• Develop effective construction/engineering site security plans including access controls, people protection, security of plant, equipment and materials, fraud prevention (includes guard-force services, alarms, bio-metric access control systems, CCTV etc.)
• Develop proactive plans, policies and procedures that prevent and detect bribery and corruption both internally and externally with our employees, business partners and contractors
• In collaboration with Audit, Governance and HR colleagues, manage and undertake the effective investigation of incidents of theft, fraud, assault, data loss, bribery, corruption and some other aspects of misconduct
• Develop, maintain and exercise crisis management, emergency procedure and business continuity plans as part of an on-going global program
• Develop and deliver professional security-related briefings and presentations including those within our bidding processes
• Contribute to our program of pre-employment screening, vetting, Bribery Act risk screening etc.
• Conduct reviews of security plans and develop action plans which will respond to any deficiencies or shortcomings as appropriate
• Advise on the procurement of state-of-art technologies which add to our security measures and develop contracts with appropriate suppliers
• Ensure that appropriate security awareness training is identified and delivered
• Manage special projects including those that have special risks (such as nuclear, military, government or data-centre construction projects and those that may become targets of single-issue protest groups)

Candidate Profile

• Intellectual depth – ideally a graduate, but must be able to demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development; relevant security qualifications
• 10 years of work experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a leading role in security and a minimum of 3 years in the construction and engineering industry (or a similar industry – oil, gas, mining, international retail or FMCG)
• Language skills: English (fluent spoken and written), an articulate and persuasive presenter in meetings
• Personal and professional integrity of the highest caliber; must undergo rigorous pre-employment screening and vetting process
• An effective communicator at all levels of the organisation with good interpersonal skills; must have a collaborative style and the ability to influence across the organisation and achieve buy-in; good writing skills
• In-depth core knowledge of security systems, technologies and practices which will protect our people, assets, information and reputation
• IT Skills: must be computer literate, MS Office programs and ready ability to learn in-house systems
• Commercially astute – decision making must be aligned to corporate goals
• Up to date working knowledge of operational planning and risk management tools.
• Must have experience of working as part of a change management agenda and capable of bringing a positive influence to security projects
• Intellectual capacity to analyse complex situations and data, make relevant deductions, advise and inform practical solutions and decisions that are cost-effective and meet business objectives; good problem solver
• Be able to deliver timely decisions and adjust priorities in rapidly changing circumstances.
• Good leadership and management skills especially in the areas of organisation, getting results, project management, innovation, motivation, cost effectiveness and diplomacy.
• Must be prepared to undertake regular travel throughout UK and possibly occasional international travel; respond to crisis and incidents at short notice
• Must have a full UK driving license to drive cars
