Quantity Surveyor

Salary: £36,000 – £48,000 per year

Overview

Due to continued expansion, an abundant pipeline of works, and the recent award of a number of long-term framework contracts, our client is now looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor/Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

Reporting to the Divisional Manager the main purpose of this role will be to take responsibility for the administration and coordination of the company’s construction contracts and installations. You will also understand and coordinate the company’s projects, ensuring all parties are complicit with the terms and conditions, and that all contracts abide by relevant laws and regulations, and ultimately are executed to the agreed terms. You will provide any support and assistance to members of the operations teams, and Directors and Managers on all aspects relating to commercial and contractual activity.

The Role

* Understand and coordinate contracts for installations, seeking instructions from clients

* Liaise with subcontractors to ensure installations are undertaken within the terms of contracts

* Control material planning and delivery dates, including on site cranes, plant and equipment

* Liaise with suppliers and logistics teams to ensure OTIF deliveries

* Read and understand technical construction drawings and specifications

* Obtain costs and provide estimates and pricing for installations

* Liaise with site teams to ensure safe, efficient and effective high quality installations

* Handle instructions, such as variations and negotiate standing time or other issues relating to prime costs

* Provide quotations for minor works, defects and return visits

* Preparing and issuing project progress reports

* Maintain a schedule of costs and managing subcontractors when required

* Ensuring quality and HSE requirements are complied with at all times

* Identify risks and value, and act as a central point of contact for clients and internal departments for all queries regarding contracts

* Work in compliance with the Company’s QA, H&S, ISO systems and procedures, and all relevant regulatory laws

* Assist in the provision of accurate monthly reporting of cost and value on projects in line with the company’s reporting process, whilst always ensuring compliance with commercial expectations

* Support progress monitoring, provide commercial reporting and incorporate information to support change management and variations orders

The Person

* Previous experience in the capacity of being a member of a commercial team within a relevant civil engineering, construction, sub-contracting or infrastructure environment

* Sound working knowledge of construction and contract law and various forms of contract

* Knowledge and understanding of tendering and procurement processes

* Knowledge of various construction techniques for a wide array of projects

* Ability to apply the knowledge and principles of quantity surveying to complex and challenging schemes

* Working knowledge of basic plant, equipment and materials

* Knowledge and understanding of sub-contracting principles, together with the ability to draft and administer sub contracts

* Ability to implement procedures to quantify and cost construction works, including the use of appropriate standard methods of measurement

* Proficiency in administration, communication, reporting, numeracy, IT and MS Office etc

* The ability to build effective relationships at all levels both internally and externally

* Proven ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative

* Enthusiasm and results focussed, with an ability to work well under pressure and to challenging or stringent deadlines

* Effective negotiation skills with both internal and external clients and teams
