Purchasing Manager / Team Leader

Our client is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to join their ever expanding business..

The successful applicant for the position will have:

• Proven experience in an electronics buying role and experience of supervision of Junior Buyers or Purchasing Assistants
• Man management skills with the ability to manage a team of four to six junior buyers
• IT skills including competence with Windows applications, experience of company intranets, experience of using extranets, advanced knowledge of Excel (including pivot tables) and an understanding of relational databases (e.g. SQL or Access)
• An understanding of modern manufacturing and supply chain practices (e.g. Lean, Just in Time, Consignment Stock)
• Five good GCSE’s or equivalent, including Maths and English
• Good communication and negotiation skills
• A relevant bachelor degree or CIPS qualifications a distinct advantage

Job Functions:
• Use the company’s systems and supervise Junior Buyers to:

• Obtain best prices for new orders to be placed by negotiation and obtaining quotes from a number of suppliers
• Ensure continuity of supply of stock (direct spend) items and that orders are placed where shortages are indicated
• Ensure that orders are confirmed before they are due to arrive to ensure they are on time
• Ensure that late arrival of goods against purchase orders are chased and expedited
• Review and change scheduled orders according to fluctuation of requirements
• Manage buffer and consignment stocks
• Source routine and non-critical items

As Directed by the Procurement Manager:
• Work with our Engineers to assist with selection of and obtain pricing for new components
• Assist with purchasing of consumable (indirect spend) items
• Arrange or attend meetings with suppliers
• Assist with sourcing of critical and strategic items
• Assist with management and review of supplier performance
• Assist with selection of new suppliers and auditing of existing suppliers
• Input into selection of the most suitable purchasing strategies
• Perform other routine administration work
