Principle Research Scientist – Fermentation
CY Partners are seeking a dynamic, high calibre Fermentation Scientist to head up a rapidly expanding North East research and development team to develop pioneering solutions to commercialize next-generation industrial biotechnology.
Job Responsibilities
:
• Provide technical leadership to early-stage fermentation development activities, including the mentoring and development of team members.

• Ensure operational and technical excellence in a 24/7 microbial fermentation laboratory, working flexible hours as required.

• Document experimental results in technical reports meticulously.

• Advise R&D Director on fermentation technology, supporting early stage strain development activities.

• Participate and contribute to EHS and technical meetings.

Qualifications
Required Skills
• PhD in chemical/biochemical engineering or biological/chemical sciences.

• Proven operational and technical excellence in managing fermentation laboratories and leading fermentation teams.

• Established expert in microbial fermentation cultivation strategies, including fed-batch and continuous fermentation.

• Highly knowledgeable in microbial metabolism/biochemistry.

• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams including molecular and systems biologists.

• Fundamental understanding of fermentation gas to liquid mass transfer.

• Experience in technology transfer and scale-up of fermentation processes.

• Proven experience in fermentation process development and associated statistical techniques.

• Demonstrated sound economic thinking, relating in particular to techno-economic analysis.

• Working knowledge of typical analytical techniques underpinning fermentation.

• Fundamental understanding of fermentation process control.
