Occupational Therapist

Salary: £25.2 – £28.8 per hour

An excellent career opportunity has become available for a proactive and innovative Occupational Therapist to co-ordinate therapies services provision to our flagship site, Baldock Manor Hospital (BMH).

is a 45-bed mental health facility for adults in various settings (a Female PICU, Rehab and Elderly High Dependency Unit). We are looking for a ‘hands-on’, driven and experienced ‘Occupational Therapist’ to work under the umbrella of Psychology & Therapies department and help to grow and shape our business’ focus of providing measurable therapy-based interventions to our patients, thus contributing to the overall vision. You will be confident, competent and with excellent IT and organisational skills; and be prepared to undertake this role to ensure our high standards of quality care are delivered consistently. You will have a strong acumen to develop existing therapies treatment plans and develop new to cater our patient base.

Job Purpose:

To work within the multidisciplinary teams of BMH, managing a defined caseload of service users providing core occupational therapy assessments and interventions that enable the services users to work towards recovery, a valued lifestyle and aim for optimum level of functional ability and to oversee and support the provision of the occupational group therapies at BMH ensuring these meet the needs of the client groups and, ensuring that the outcomes measures are consistently recorded and routinely reported on.

Main Responsibilities

* To undertake occupational therapy assessments leading to the identification of the service users’ needs whilst addressing occupational performance, establishing baseline levels of functioning, establishing strengths and skills deficits and, enabling the service users in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.

* To plan and implement individual and group evidence-based interventions, in collaboration with the service users and staff, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals. To interpret assessments, evaluating the impact of illness, disability or environmental factors on the service user’s ability to carry out his or her desired activities and occupations.

* To write occupational therapy reports for referring agencies and other healthcare professionals involved in the service users’ care. Contribute to the MDT reports. To record information required for statistical purposes in an accurate and timely manner. To ensure that up to date written and electronic records are maintained in accordance with the professional and company standards.

* To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines both verbally and in writing, e.g. medical notes, reports and letters. To monitor and evaluate and re-evaluate at regular intervals individual and group treatments in order to measure progress and ensure the effectiveness of the interventions.

* To produce routine outcome measures of the occupational therapy services as directed by the Head of Psychology and therapies.

* To assist staff across all units in fostering relationships with local communities to enable service users’ integration into the local communities.

* To attend meetings such as CPA/MDT, service users progress review meeting and, contribute to the decisions with regards to the service users’ care plans and to promote positive working relationships.

Person Specifications

Essential

* HCPC registered

* Diploma/BSc in Occupational Therapy and documented CPD evidence.

* Post-registration experience of working in complex mental health supporting vulnerable adults who present with a wide range of issues (psychiatric conditions, mild LD, older adults with neurocognitive deficits, personality disorders) and complex physical health care needs.

* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment.

* Knowledge of OT assessment, intervention and practice models relevant to the variety of service user group (e.g. MoHo). Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice.

* Ability to work autonomously with individuals and groups, the ability to establish effective professional relationships with a wide range of professionals and work as part of a team. An ability to manage the pressure of working in an intensive environment whilst remaining innovative, flexible and adaptive.

* High standard IT skills, including outlook, word, excel and PowerPoint.

Desirable

* Post-graduation training relevant to mental health.

* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.

* Line management and supervision experience.
