MBT Site Manager

Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria

Our client, a leading waste-to-product business, is currently recruiting an experienced Site Manager for their Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) Facility in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. The successful candidate will have full autonomy across the site with a great opportunity for future growth within the business.

Main Duties:

  • Full responsibility for managing all operations on the MBT Facility, including a small team of site-based engineers/technicians who are responsible for controlling and managing all maintenance aspects on the site.
  • Ensure Local Authority Service Level Agreements are achieved in compliance with all relevant Health, Safety, Environmental Permits/Licences/Consents/Planning, and any other relevant statutory environmental requirements.
  • Delivery of SHEQ compliance, lead safe working practices and behaviour.
  • Ensure Health and Safety standards and procedures are maintained and all related documentation is completed and trained out with a positive and proactive approach.
  • Ensure production processes and associated activities are cost effective by developing and implementing appropriate financial controls to the operations, along with monitoring and controlling the operations to ensure the achievement of budgeted revenue, operating profit and cash targets.
  • Assist in the delivery of continuous improvement around Lifecycle, Capital, R&M and productivity.
  • Monitor and develop relevant KPI’s for all production processes. Using KPI’s as effective operational and financial management tools.
  • Monitor the production processes and adjust schedules as needed. Ensuring input and output levels are maintained and in compliance along with monitoring product standards and implementing quality-control programmes.
  • Ensure, through the maintenance teams on site, there is efficient and effective planned and reactive maintenance at all times and that downtime is minimised.
  • Drive and lead solutions to prevent reoccurrence of maintenance issues on site, with best practise cascaded across all sites.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects in liaison with the UK Central Engineering Dept.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives and be proactive in the development of practices and systems.
  • Ensure the planned preventative maintenance program for the site is maintained and adhered to.
  • Organise training to ensure that all operatives possess the necessary range of skills to produce the required results.
  • Be responsible for managing, training and disciplining staff.
  • Protect the reputation of the Company in the community by adopting demanding standards of tidiness and care. Communicate the company’s philosophy and examples of it in action locally to community representative bodies and actively participate in public liaison meetings.

Essential Attributes:

  • Experience of waste treatment processes, ideally MBT.
  • Previous experience in leading a team within a process-based environment.
  • Relevant COTC Certificate.
  • Mechanical and Electrical Engineering knowledge.
  • IOSH / NEBOSH Certificate / working knowledge of HAZOP procedures and commitments.
