Salary: £42,000 per year

Our established client in the IT Services is currently looking for a Lead 2nd Line Data Centre Technician to join them on a permanent basis. This is a fast-paced and varied role, where you will travel to client sites to provide support on behalf of the company. To assist the data centre team, with the collation of hard drive and equipment information marked for decommissioning or re-use, once removed from the Data Halls.

Job requirements:

  • Over 3/4 years of Data Centre experience
  • Good knowledge of computing hardware and components
  • Installing, testing, and modifying cross connections
  • Excellent understanding of CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, OM3/OM4 and OS2 cabling systems
  • Demonstrable Technical knowledge and installation of copper, fibre and Wi-Fi communication systems
  • Installation, termination and testing of both copper and fibre network cables
  • CNCI or similar (beneficial)
  • Good understanding of MS Excel (beneficial)
  • Good understanding of data centre power systems (beneficial)
  • Existing client relations within the data centre industry (beneficial)
  • SC cleared (extremely beneficial)
  • Data centre migrations (extremely beneficial)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Racking and stacking of servers, net devices, and storage
  • Patching to an extremely high standard
  • Auditing hardware and cabling of existing data centre environments
  • Pulling and terminating Cat5e/6/6a and various fibre structured cabling systems
  • Contributing to the design of data centre deployments as well as other client requirements
  • Being a key part of data centre migration projects.

The role is Monday to Friday and operates over a 45-hour week. The salary for the role is between £42,000and £39,000 depending on experience and the benefits include:

  • 25 days holiday
  • Ad-hoc ‘rest days’
  • Pension with up to 5% company contribution
  • Use of company vehicles
  • Optional overtime

Applicants must have a full UK driving license and be willing to travel to client sites around the area. The company offers access to a company vehicle for client visits and all business mileage is claimable if using your own vehicle.
