Introduction
Due to continued growth, Net Consulting has an excellent opportunity for a junior Network & Application Monitoring Engineer to work within our dynamic team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to offer professional, technical services to our clients in the field of network & application performance monitoring.
Ideally, you will be a graduate in Computer Science, IT or a related subject with 1-2 years relevant experience. It is essential that you have UK SC security clearance.
Net Consulting is an IT consultancy specialising in network & application performance monitoring, troubleshooting and analysis. Our services cover the full application lifecycle from application modelling of system performance on the intended infrastructure, troubleshooting existing deployment and using capacity planning to understand network bandwidth requirements.
Whilst the primary location for this role will be Corsham, Wiltshire, there may be a requirement for travel to other locations within the UK to work on client’s sites, therefore you must have a full UK driving licence.

Junior Network and Application Monitoring Engineer Role Objectives
The purpose of this role is to offer professional, technical services to our clients in the field of network & application performance monitoring through the following objectives:
* Specialising in application performance tooling and analysis in addition to undertaking pre-sales, troubleshooting and solution implementation activities
* Supporting initial requirements gathering, the design and configuration of network/application monitoring solutions and presentation of findings and outcomes.
* Addressing visibility and performance challenges within client’s application and network infrastructure
Junior Network and Application Monitoring Engineer Responsibilities
• Diagnose client issues, undertake investigative work using tooling and recommend solutions
• Technical pre-sales work, attending meetings, designing, documenting and presenting solutions
• Assisting colleagues in the completion of projects, to meet deadlines and client expectations
• Undertake project requirements gathering, and produce lower level project design documentation
• Prepare, implement & decommission appropriate equipment and tools for analysis projects, including laptops and servers with relevant monitoring software
• Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, based on the report findings
• Investigation of new software technologies in a lab environment
• To maintain an up to date knowledge of changes in IT
Junior Network and Application Monitoring Engineer Person Specification
• Graduate in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related subject
• Good understanding of TCP/IP and network ports/protocols usage is essential
• Experience troubleshooting complex network issues
• An appreciation of Enterprise class networking (CISCO, Juniper, F5 or similar technologies)
• Good knowledge of networked Application to Application communication
• Awareness of Network Performance Monitoring tools (SolarWinds Orion, HP OpenView, CA Spectrum, Entuity, Nagios or similar) is desirable
• Experience with NetFlow, VoIP monitoring & analysis is desirable
• Basic knowledge and awareness in any of the following tools is desirable:
* Riverbed AppResponse, Riverbed Portal
* Compuware Vantage suite
* NetScout nGenius
* Computer Associates NetQoS suite
* Ipanema Technologies Application Visibility, QoS & Control Tools
* Network packet-based Application Performance Monitoring (Wireshark, Observer, Sniffer, Fluke)
* BMC End User Experience Manager
• To be successful in this role you must exercise leadership qualities and take responsibility for actions and decision making.

• The ability to work flexibly in a high-pressure environment, managing changing priorities and workloads is essential.
