Location: Dagenham, Essex

Role: Permanent

Salary: £29,368 – £33,626(£28,470 – £32,112 fte)

Hours: 35 per week

Qin Recruitment are working with a large Secondary School based in Dagenham, Essex. They are now looking to appoint a HR & Payroll Officer on a permanent basis.

This is a great opportunity to join a highly successful school as part of a friendly and very hard-working department. Established as a brand-new school in 2002, we moved into our award-winning £30 million accommodation in 2005. The school is located within easy reach of central London via the District Line and yet just minutes by car from the Essex countryside.

The school’s most recent OFSTED report described the school as good with outstanding leadership and governance and outstanding spiritual, moral, social, and cultural provision; this judgement was reinforced at our last Section 8 inspection in November 2017. 

Previous Payroll experience is essential as is a sound HR knowledge. This will ideally come from a school’s background, but other sectors will be considered.

The Role

As part of the staffing management team, you will carry out administrative services in relation to staff recruitment, payroll and human resources issues ensuring that these support services for the school are efficient, effective, and meet deadlines.

Main Activities:

  • Assist with the provision of a recruitment and selection service from advertisement to induction stage ensuring effective administrative support and good communication between all parties concerned
  • Administration for new starters, leavers, maternity, paternity, shared parental leave, staff references, probationary periods
  • Administration for contractual and salary amendments
  • Maintain up to date Single Central Record and associated safeguarding procedures including DBS processing and monitoring
  • Administration of all statutory safeguarding record keeping in relation to all school staff
  • In conjunction with our external payroll provider, input and check the monthly payrolls for both teaching and support staff encompassing new starters, leavers, maternity/paternity, contractual changes, overtime payments, etc and carry out monthly reconciliation of payroll and monthly pension reporting
  • Prepare Occupational Sick Pay, Statutory Sick Pay and Maternity Pay calculations and process accordingly
  • Liaison with school’s HR and payroll provider
  • Enter and retrieve data from the school’s staff records systems, as appropriate, whilst ensuring data protection procedures are followed
  • Provision of annual staff salary statements
  • Assist with all issues relating to staff disciplinary/competency/grievance
  • Attend and take minutes of relevant staff employment-related meetings
  • Prepare relevant paperwork for new staff induction programmes
  • Ensure IR35 compliance
  • Produce annual Gender Pay Gap Report
  • Maintain records of all types of safeguarding training for all staff and act as administrator for online training programmes
  • Maintain annual leave records for support staff who work all year as well as staff who work on a claim’s basis
  • Maintain records and files ensuring security of those of a confidential nature
