Salary: £56,400 per year

Salary: Circa GBP 47,000 + Company car or cash allowance
Field Based: 2/3 days working in our hostel network, 1/2 days work from home and 1 day working from our Central Office (Matlock, Derbyshire).
Full time Permanent Contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health and Safety profession to join our team as Head of SHEQ and act as the named Health and Safety Competent Person and Designated Safeguarding Lead for YHA England & Wales Ltd.

We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic individual with the ability to communicate at all levels to come on board and take ownership of the compliance, management and delivery of Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Risk Management and establish YHA’s environmental strategy and Quality framework.

Key Role Responsibilities:

* Ensure YHA is compliant with the HSAW Act 1974 and Children’s Act 2004
* Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are maintained and applied within National Office and the YHA hostel Network.
* Statutory & policy compliance and best practice is easily understood and effectively communicated to all staff, volunteers and Enterprise Operators.
* Manage and support the SHEQ team and contracts with outsourced audit organisations.
* Lead the Health and Safety Committee and Safeguarding Panel.
* Investigate significant accidents/incidents and dangerous occurrences and recommend appropriate remedial action.
* Liaise with third parties and enforcement agencies for corporate level and central office matters to ensure a good regulatory relationship
* Lead on the development and implementation of YHA’s Risk Policy and maintenance of the organisational risk registers
* Lead on development of YHA’s Environmental Strategy and compliance with statutory environment and waste legislation and private water supply regulations/
* The Heads of Department on implementation and measurement of the key performance indicators for energy management.
* Lead On development of YHA’s Quality Framework and procedures to ensure YHA’s ways of working are easily understood by all YHA staff.
* Will be required to travel extensively across the hostel network, including overnight stays and occasional weekend work

Person specification:

* Qualified to NEBOSH Dip or NVQ Level 4 up to Degree level or equivalent
* Professional membership of an appropriate health and safety professional body
* Holds a lead auditor qualification in a relevant subject area
* Eligible to hold Associate level membership of IEMA
* A collaborative management approach combined with a proven ability to accurately give instructions and ensure clients adhere to these instructions
* Confident and enthusiastic communicator with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders to offer support, communicate and motivate to deliver to deadlines. Evidence of understanding the principles of dynamic and systematic risk assessment and putting that knowledge into practice.
* Evidence of implementing policies and practices leading to improved results.
* Planning and organisational skills are required in order to co-ordinate, develop and deliver strategies and policies
