Salary: £37,200 – £45,600 per year

This exciting new role of Fabrication Process Engineer, will strengthen the process team in the engineering department to deliver high quality welded and fabricated components, release new products and improve existing products and processes. In collaboration with the design team, your input into improving manufacturing processes will be distilled into the production teams, ranging from overseeing the first production runs ensuring a smooth transition into manufacturing to enhancing productivity.

Within this multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will ensure fabrication and manufacturing processes are optimised from compiling SOP’s /work instructions to designing jigs/fixtures, you will be very involved with the fabrication team and their processes of welding, Press Brake setting, industrial robots programming and hands-on fabrication methods.

Fabrication Process Engineer tasks and responsibilities:

  • Proactively engage the design, process and fabrications teams in Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) techniques and lean activities for continuous improvement
  • Jig/fixture design for efficient manufacturing and QC including drawings and documents
  • Develop, maintain and update all SOP’s for fabrication and sub contractors in close cooperation with the quality and fabrication teams
  • Use of MIG, TIG and other welding processes, set program and operate the Press Brake and industrial robots along with the use of hand tools associated with welding processes, cutting, drilling, grinding and the use of powered rollers, supporting manufacturing to achieve capacity needs

Fabrication Process Engineer skills and qualities:

  • Qualified to apprenticeship level (3 years minimum) in Welding / Fabrication with sheet metal experience and TIG/ MIG and fabrication skills gained in mechanical engineering manufacturing
  • Demonstrable process improvements with a good understanding of DFMA and lean techniques so able to positively influence assembly times
  • Good knowledge of engineering drawings in particular welds and bend details with knowledge of engineering design concepts and practices
  • Programming of the Press Brake and robotic calls is a very desirable skill to have
  • IT skills should include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ERP/MRP system knowledge
  • Good communication skills to update and write clear and accurate SOP’s, working closely with production
  • Be a problem solver, team player, organised, pro-active and with excellent attention to detail you’ll have a passion for engineering
