ETO – Electrical Technical Officer – (Marine)

We have a very urgent requirement for a renowned research organisation that require an experienced ETO with HV experience to join their research vessel the RRS James Clark Ross.

To be considered you must be a current holder of STCW’95 combined with a valid ENG1 coupled with appropriate electrical qualifications, 17th Edition etc. to maintain all electrical and electronic equipment (with ETO Comms) together with the management of the ships electrical installations.

Your duties will involve the operation and maintenance of main switchboard and distribution, ensuring that all electrical and electronic equipment assigned to your care is maintained to statutory and Class requirements/standards where relevant, and to comply with the IEE/IET Regulations for the Electrical and Electronic Equipment of Ships with Recommended Practice for their Implementation.

Operate and execute the planned maintenance system for such equipment ensuring that the ship is ready in all electrical respects for all known operational requirements. (Including fixed scientific machinery), diagnose electrical and electronic faults, take remedial action and report and to be prepared to react quickly to assigned equipment failure or emergency when alerted. Be in the ECR/MCR during “stand-by” periods as required by the Chief Engineer. Familiarise yourself with the duties of other engineer officers and to assist with mechanical maintenance when required. Work closely with the ETO (Comms) and to assist if required in the care and maintenance of Bridge electrical equipment and assist supernumerary staff in fulfilling their electrical requirements.

Duties include maintain and repair systems, Wartsila, Westinghouse Diesel eclectic DC propulsion, Siemens power management & switchgear, Kongsberg automation/navigation systems & DP control, Odim winch drive system, AC & ventilation, water treatment, PM & storekeeper system.

You will be responsible for the safekeeping, issue, control and requisitioning (through the Chief Engineer) of all spares and stores assigned to your care. Maintain a daily workbook for presentation to the CE on request.

Due to the arduous environment you will be required to be physically fit to work in adverse weather conditions and be capable of passing a medical examination.
