Engineering Technician
Full job description
Arc Recruitment
Salary: £26,000 – £30,420 per year
The Engineering Technician primary aim is technical in nature, having little requirement for knowledge of mechanical build and principles (i.e. metalwork fabrication) unless it directly affects the technical aspect of the current task. The focus of the role will be the production and fitting out of control consoles and their associated components within the VR Ride area of the Engineering Department.
These products require attention to detail in their construction and assembly, following the processes set out in the digital reporting system used to track the current build stage and completeness (training will be given). Key components and skills encountered will include but are not limited to: pneumatic valves and air controllers, mains power switches and wiring, low voltage switches and wiring, custom circuitry, compressors, Windows-based user interfaces.
Knowledge and experience of soldering, wiring high- and low-power circuitry and being aware of electrical/electronic safety are vital for this role. An understanding of basic engineering principles is beneficial, along with the knowledge of the CAM used in the department which facilitates the product’s creation. Considerable initiative, time management and common sense are expected as some production periods will be with lesser supervisory input.
Additionally, the Technician will support the fabricators at all levels to ensure that products leaving the department are functioning as expected based on their specification. Knowledge of past products is expected to be gained and retained through experience in the role, as well as knowledge of current products entering production.
Throughout the year the Technician will also be involved in producing the electronic devices and systems utilized by all products and they will test and configure all systems before implementing them in the final stages of most of the product builds as part of a Quality Control aspect of the role. Products sent back for servicing and refurbishment will need to be dealt with by the technician, employing knowledge of the build process and component interaction to return the products to functional order for the customer – often to tight deadlines.
Site visits and customer support calls are also expected should they be required, with most site-based fixes or servicing carried out by either the one technician alone, or as part of a team involving a Senior member of the department. Due to the seasonal nature of the business, early and late periods of the year involve installation and removal of products from sites across the country, often overnight, and as such a valid and clean UK Driving License and the ability to work away are both requirements for this role.
