Location:- Leeds & Wakefield

Salary:- £31,200

Contract:- 6 months – with a view to being extended

Role overview of a Drug and Alcohol Caseworker

Trigon Recruitment are recruiting for a reputable national training provider for a Drug and alcohol Caseworker. This role will carry a caseload of customers who are unemployed and referred by Job Centre Plus. A Drug and alcohol Caseworker will carry a caseload of customers and support them through a series of up to 6 face to face interventions to support them move closer to the labour market and address their addictions/dependencies.

The role is initially for 6 months with a view to being extended until 31st January 2023.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with drug and alcohol addictions/dependencies and particularly where this is having an adverse impact on their ability to maintain positive relationships and secure sustainable employment. Experience will preferably come from previous experience in a professional capacity but applications are also welcomed from people who have managed these conditions in their personal lives – for example supporting a relative or close friend.

You will have the ability to build strong rapport and working relationships in a short time frame and be empathetic and be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the challenges presented by drug and alcohol related issues. Over the course of six face to face meetings you will seek to understand the behaviours and subsequent impact on the individuals lives and create a realistic and timebound action plan to set in motion a series of activities/actions that will help to promote stability and move individuals closer to the labour market. A good knowledge of local support agencies would be a distinct advantage as there will be a lot of referring/signposting involved within the role.

Main duties of a Drug and Alcohol Caseworker:-

  • Managing a caseload of customers
  • Signposting where applicable to partner agencies
  • Liaising with employers to source exclusive job opportunities (if appropriate)
  • Fully updating the organisation database in a timely manner
  • Effectively facilitating a diagnostic interview to identify key barriers and issues
  • Creating robust SMART action plans that address identified barriers
  • Carrying out regular reviews of progress made
  • Liaising with referral partners to keep them informed of actions and progress being made
  • Building strong relationships with key partner agencies within the local community
  • Offering strong practical and pastoral support to customers
