Driver (Youth Service)

Salary: £20.17 per hour

Th Role

Please note that this is a temporary opportunity working Monday to Friday 07:00-15:30 throughout the month of January 2023.

Applicants must hold a clean category C licence, must be over 23 and have been driving for a minimum of 3 years.

The Youth Service are looking for an individual to operate its Mobile Youth Centre, supporting a local, refurbishing school.

Applicants will be responsible for collecting the vehicle each morning from a set location in Basildon and driving to agreed locations in Rochford where they will support school staff to work with the most vulnerable pupils who will require face to face support during a period when the school is closed.

Although desired it is not essential to be an experienced youth worker. School staff will lead at all times, however experience or desire to work with 11-16 year olds would be an advantage.

Driver responsibilities:

• Pick up mobile unit at 07:00
• Arrive at destination at 07:30
• Return Unit for 15:30

Youth worker responsibilities:

• Facilitate young people’s learning and their personal and social development in accordance with the core values of youth work
• Ensure Child Protection/ Safeguarding Guidelines (SET) are followed and that all concerns are reported promptly
• Keep accurate and efficient administrative systems and record keeping

Knowledge, Skills and experience:

• in working with customers from a broad and diverse range of backgrounds/needs
• Demonstrate good communication and social skills in a customer-based setting
• Clean Category C driving license
• Driving for a minimum of 3 years
• Demonstrate good communication and social skills in a customer-based setting
• A nationally JNC recognised qualification in youth support work, minimum Level 2 (QCF, VRQ, NVQ or Local) with a willingness to undertake a relevant level three qualification (Desired but not essential)
• Experience of successfully involving young people in decision making processes (Desired but not essential)
• Knowledge and experience of youth work methods and techniques (Desired but not essential)

Community-based Worker – As a community-based worker, you would spend most of your time working in the wider community. Your role may involve client meetings, visits, project work and reports. You’ll mainly be working where the service users are, not where the ‘office’ is, but you will have an admin base for when you need it. The majority of our frontline teams are community based as they are working with children, families and partners in the community; these workers will have access to office bases as part of their work.
