Customs Clerk – West Yorkshire – Circa £25,000
Our Client is looking for a Customs Clerk to join their team in West Yorkshire.
Full-time. Permanent. Salary depending on skills and experience.
Role and responsibilities:
* Oversee implementation projects in the customs department
* Ensure smooth and timely customs process flow
* Ensure accurate and timely client billing
* Assist with verification of customs declaration information and the submission of such to the customs authority
* Track and trace Customs files
* Interact with customs authorities to address any issues/questions arising during the clearing
* Attend any customs inspections or present documents to customs authorities when such are requested
* Act as the liaison between the customs authorities (or other government agencies and customers)
* Attend Customs and Industry seminars
* Ensure timely customs clearance of cargo to customer for Import and Export shipments
* Verify documents received for Import and Export customs purposes are compliant and correct
* Interact with our customers in arranging their international shipments, meeting customer service standards
* Contribute to maintain strong relationships with customs officers
* Understand department process flow, constantly looking for areas of improved efficiency.
* Act as the main point of contact for all custom clearance
* Be at the forefront of preparations for Brexit with customers, agents and suppliers
* Work alongside the Global Services team, in the day to day running of bookings/shipments
* Calculate freight & insurance costs for export and import freight
* Follow consignments in transit to completion and invoicing
* Ensure legal compliance to all local and international regulations
* Working with the transport and warehouse operations, provide the customer with a one-stop-shop for all their freight needs
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce cost and deliver better service
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Be an established Customs Clearance Specialist
* Import/Export, custom clearance or international trade qualification
* Good knowledge of customs brokerage process and system essential
* Good knowledge of customs legislation, especially with regards to classification, valuation and origin
* Understanding of road, ocean and air documentation process
* Knowledge of air, road and ocean transport
* Good knowledge of incoterms
* Proficiency with the Office Microsoft package
* Eligibility to work in the UK
Preferred Qualities and Skills:
* Process minded with the ability to set up effective working practices
* Up to date knowledge of ADR regulations
* Ability to work collaboratively with others
* Flexible and able to work efficiently when under pressure
* Act as a Company Ambassador by maintaining a customer focused and professional approach to service delivery at all time
